NOTICE:

In compliance with the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals’ decision in Senne v. Village of Palatine, 695F3d597 (7th Circuit, 2012), and the Driver’s Privacy Protection Act (“DPPA”), 18 U.S.C. §2721 et.seq., the Washington County Sheriff’s Office is no longer releasing personal information under the DPPA unless it falls under a permissible use. Personal information obtained from the Department of Motor Vehicles, including an individual’s date of birth, drivers license number, social security number, home address, telephone number, photograph and medical or disability information is prohibited from disclosure unless one of the permissible uses applies. Permissible uses are listed in 18 U.S.C. 2721 (b).

Officer Involved Shooting Decision

WEST BEND, Wis. - The Washington County District Attorney’s Office reviewed the independent police investigation relating to the fatal police shooting of Nicholas S. Pingel, age 30, of West Bend by an on-duty Washington County sheriff’s deputy. That independent investigation was conducted by the Wisconsin Department of Justice - Division of Criminal Investigations as a result of an incident on February 3, 2021 in the Town of Kewaskum. On that date, deputies responded to the 8100 block of Forest View Rd for a violent crime spree committed by the suspect that left two innocent Washington County men dead.

Erin Parade Information

The Town of Erin St. Patrick’s Day parade will be held on Wednesday, March 17th. The parade will begin at 11:00 AM. Starting at 10:00am, only people going to the parade will be allowed to pass barricades northbound on CTH K. Pending vehicular and pedestrian traffic on the parade route, the 10:00am time may be adjusted. The Sheriff’s Office in cooperation with the Town of Erin, has taken steps to ensure that the parade route and surrounding highways will be as safe as possible for motorists and pedestrians.

On Sunday, March 14, 2021, at 1:51 PM, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a structure fire at West Bend Lakes, 1241 STH 33 in the Town of Trenton.

Single Family House Fire 21-6250
02/23/2021
On Tuesday 2/23/2021 at approximately 1:05 am, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a house fire at a single family residence in the 6700 block of Alpine Dr in the Town of Addison. The fire was reported by one of the homeowners. The homeowners first reported observing active flames coming from the sunroom located at the rear of the residence. The homeowners were able to safely evacuate the residence along with their dog.

Fatal Snowmobile Crash
02/16/2021
On February 16th 2021 at 10:35 PM the Washington County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a single snowmobile crash that occurred on the trail system in the area of Scenic Rd and Pioneer Rd in the Village of Richfield. The caller reported that the male operator of the snowmobile had struck a tree and was unconscious. Washington County Sheriff’s Deputies along with Richfield Fire and Rescue were dispatched to the scene.

On Friday, February 12, 2021, at 5:02 PM, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a semi-tractor engine compartment on fire inside a large pole shed at Kreilkamp Trucking, 6487 STH 175 in the Town of Addison.

Structure Fire
02/09/2021
On Tuesday February 9, 2021 at 10:46 am a passerby reported to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office that a garage was on fire in the 3000 block of Kettle Moraine Road in the Town of Hartford. The caller reported that heavy smoke could be seen coming from the structure. A short time later the Washington County Dispatch Center received a 911 call from the homeowner reporting the garage fire.

Update to Town of Kewaskum Homicide

Today, the Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigations, identified the individual killed during a shootout with a Washington County deputy on Wednesday, February 3, 2021, as 30-year-old Nicholas S. Pingel of West Bend. The sheriff’s office confirmed that Nicholas Scott Pingel is the lone suspect involved in the crime spree immediately leading up to the officer-involved shooting that ended the threat to the community that day.

2/11/2021 Community Notification
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office is releasing the following information pursuant to WI Statute 301.46(2m) which authorizes law enforcement agencies to inform the public of a sex offender’s release when, in the discretion of the agency, the release of information will enhance public safety, awareness and protection. The individual who appears on this notification has been convicted of a sex offense. Further, his criminal history places him in a classification level which reflects a low potential to re-offend.
