A Park and Open Space Plan for Washington County: 2035

The Planning and Parks Department is updating the County Park and Open Space Plan which will address both open space preservation and outdoor recreation as key elements to the future success, economic vitality and quality of life in Washington County. Throughout October and November 2014, the Planning Division held a series of public outreach events to gather public opinion about the future direction of the County Park and Trail System. Efforts included a telephone survey, mail survey, focus group sessions, public workshops, youth outreach, and mini surveys. See below for descriptions of the public outreach events. Summary documents providing more detailed information and results are available for download.

Washington County Parks and Trails Telephone Survey

The Washington County Parks and Trails Telephone Survey of County residents was conducted by the UW-Milwaukee Center for Urban Initiatives and Research (CUIR), in cooperation with the Washington County Planning and Parks Department. This survey captured preferences and experiences of County residents that related to the current and future uses of the County Park and Trail System.

Data was collected via a random digit dial landline/mobile telephone survey of 697 Washington County residents from October 6th through October 24th. The sampling margin of error for the unweighted sample statistics is 3.7% at the 95% confidence level and is therefore "statistically significant" and representative of Washington County's entire population.

Washington County Parks and Trails Mail Survey

The Washington County Parks and Trails Mail Survey of individuals that have rented a shelter in the Washington County Park and Trail system was conducted by the UW-Milwaukee Center for Urban Initiatives and Research (CUIR), in cooperation with the Washington County Planning and Parks Department. This survey captured preferences and experiences related to County park shelters and future park improvements.

The Washington County Mail Survey was sent to 736 individuals that had previously rented a County park shelter between January 1st 2012 and September 1st 2014. Of the mailed surveys, 155 were collected for analysis.
