The Washington County Health Department Emergency Preparedness Program takes an "All-Hazards" approach to planning for an emergency. This means that whether the emergency is a health event such as pandemic flu, an environmental event such as a train derailment, or a weather event such as a tornado, our plans can be scaled to fit the needs of our residents.
Our staff has training in the Incident Command System (ICS) and is familiar with the National Incident Management System (NIMS). We conduct regular call down drills, tabletop exercises, and participate in statewide exercises for incidents such as follow-up for aerosolized anthrax release.
Our preparedness coordinator is the chair of the Washington County Healthcare Partners, a coalition of local healthcare providers and volunteer organizations. We are a member of Washington County Volunteer Organizations Active in Disasters (VOAD).
